People have asked me why I call my business Green River Coaching and Consulting. Aside from the fact that the Green River is a local feature in my home in Greenfield, Massachusetts, there are other reasons that the name is important to me. To me the name suggests the core principles of growth and flow, and the philosophy that organizations work best when they are based on the principle of natural harmony.
Growth. All of my interactions with my clients are designed to increase their capacity, to help them to create new options for how they can respond to problems that are all too familiar.
Flow. Generally, when people call a consultant, they are feeling stuck. If I can be the agent that helps to shift that sense of stuckness into flow, I have the satisfaction of knowing I have made an important contribution for positive change.
Natural Harmony. Unfortunately, organizations have often developed in a way that leaves many people feeling alienated, and believing that the things they need to thrive are out of synch with what is demanded of them from their jobs. I believe that organizations are best served when they are founded on the principle that humane conditions lead to better results. Specifically, it’s important to me that people can express their emotions appropriately in the workplace, and that their roles are not so demanding that they make self-care difficult or impossible. While organizations may need to take many baby steps towards becoming truly humane in this way, it is an important journey, and I am here to help.
